Rabbit, rabbit! January is FINALLY over! Has it been an insufferably long month for you too?

Did you know: Rabbit, Rabbit is a superstition whereby a person says or repeats those words when they wake up on the first day of a month for good luck?

We’re still working our way through so many doctor’s appointments in our home. And I realized this week that I desperately need to get my eyes checked so there’s one more I need to schedule! I have a feeling I’ll need a stronger prescription for these eyeballs of mine.

I’ve probably sounded a bit grumbly lately with all that’s going on, but in all honesty, January hasn’t been bad. There are always blessings hidden even within the hard days. I’ve enjoyed sharing about some of those in the Arise, Shine epiphany devotional I’ve been working on with my best friend Tawdra.

A new J.D. Pierson is coming and I LOVE photographic inspiration!

The plan is to start tapping out words on the next J.D. Pierson book by the end of this month! I can’t wait to enter that world again. In the meantime, I LOVE getting inspiration from old photographs. I follow a wonderful page on Facebook called Traces of Texas. Be sure to check them out, like and follow them if you’re like me and enjoy historic pics like this one of the little oil-boom town of Freer, Texas:

To divorce or not…

This week’s episode of Sleuthing Soundbox features actor Dennis O’Keefe who was born Edward Vance Flanagan on March 29, 1908, and began his career in vaudeville following in his father’s footsteps. He then entered film as an extra, and in 1937 had a bit part in Saratoga with Clarke Gable. Gable was so impressed he recommended him to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer who changed his name to Dennis O'Keefe. From there his career springboarded and he took on numerous film roles, many in noir. Later he also began writing mysteries. He died as so many in that period, early due to a life of heavy cigarette smoking. This episode of Suspense sees him as a husband desperate to keep his wife from divorcing him… desperate even unto death. Don’t forget to like or follow The Sleuthing Soundbox wherever you’re listening. Now let’s enjoy “The X-Ray Camera” from Suspense!

What’s new in 2024

Remember, we’re on a biweekly post/newsletter schedule starting this year (except for those who purchase a paid subscription.)

You might be wondering… “Why is C.H. doing this?” Well, I’m going to be completely honest with you…

I LOVE to write. It has been my passion since I was just thirteen years old. And I’d love to be able to write more; but for now, I still work full-time out in the real world (wouldn’t it be super snazzy to live even part of the year in a dream world?)

If I’m going to write more, I need sustainable income outside of the regular workplace. That’s why I’m changing some things and asking for your help.

If you love my work and want to support me you can do that in a few different ways:

The first is obvious… you can buy my books! You can buy them at ALL the major retailers, but the best way is to snag them from my online store (you can get discounts for sharing!)

Buy my Books!

The brand-new way to support me is by becoming a paid subscriber on Substack. You’ll get access to lots of extras including:

  • Weekly news and updates (including exclusive access to snippets of brand-new stories)

  • The Birthday Club

  • Yearly Christmas Card

  • Monthly Discount code for the Sessums Shop

  • Your choice of one eARC a year

Click the button and choose a paid subscription if you want to support my work AND get all of those extras!

Finally, you can also tell others about me and my books. There are SO MANY ways to do that:

  • you can share my books on social media

  • you can leave reviews for my books

  • you can also share this Substack (and you can get referral benefits too!)

It is so exciting to be on this fun writing journey with you. I appreciate you more than you know.

Thank you for your prayers...

I've been writing so many thoughts and fears and sorrows in my prayer journal and there is so much comfort in sending these "love letters" to our Lord. If you have any special prayer requests or intentions, please hit reply or email me to share them with me.  I will write your name in my journal and pray over you.  And I'd humbly ask you to keep me in your prayers too.
