The answer to the March “whatsit” is…
I had LOTS of correct answers to the March “whatsit” and several pointed out that this particular item is missing a very important piece…
This object is a skirt marker to help measure the length of a hemline. The little vial there would hold chalk and the missing piece is a tube with a bulb that would blow the chalk onto the skirt to mark the hem. Sherry was our winner! I’ll be gifting her a trial paid subscription to this Substack!

Tornados, tornados, and more tornados!
The hubby and I just got back from a trip through Oklahoma to Arkansas Friday night and whoa... mother nature was being WICKED.
We came through one town just as the tornado sirens were going off. Our phones start squawking because a tornado warning was called for our home and so we were checking our cameras at the house to try to see if it was still there!... Couldn't get the cameras to come on. Meanwhile, we started through another town with black clouds and a tornado warning, (Clarksville, Texas.) We were trying to get home without stopping and my bladder was at maximum capacity! I was feeling sure we would make it when we got about 3 miles from the house and came to a standstill... a huge tree was over the road and a car had driven off into the mud. We had to wait about fifteen minutes for it to clear. Our area did get hit with TWO an EF1 tornados but we are so blessed because we only sustained some minor damage to our back deck and fence. And, the awesome linemen in our county got the lights on about 7:30 Saturday night! Praise the Lord and pass the biscuits!
Lots in other areas and states have been devastated by this crazy weather and we're praying for everyone. How are things wherever you are?
The April “whatsit”
Between tornados on our trip back to Texas we stopped by the Fort Smith History Museum in Fort Smith, Arkansas. This is one of the very first large-scale museum design projects my husband did during his career. It was “BC” as we like to call things: Before Candace. A phenomenal place that we highly recommend anyone stop by to see. This “whatsit” was very impressive and I’m looking forward to your guesses:
If you know this "whatsit" email me your guess or comment on this post. I’ll choose one correct answer at random and that person will get a gift (announced in the next regular post a few weeks from now.)
Sixes and Sevens… but in the best possible way!
I am so excited because this week I started writing a brand-new mystery! I can’t wait to share more about it soon… In the meantime, did you know that paid subscribers get to follow along as I write some of my stories? Grab your paid subscription now because I’ll be dropping chapters soon!
Free prayer…
Do you have a special intention for which you need prayers? I’m always praying for YOU, my friend, but if you have any special prayer requests, please hit reply or email me to share them with me. I will write your name in my journal and pray over you. And I'd humbly ask you to keep me in your prayers too.
Note from C.H.
I LOVE to write. It has been my passion since I was just thirteen years old. And I’d love to be able to write more; but for now, I still work full-time out in the real world (wouldn’t it be super snazzy to live even part of the year in a dream world?)
If I’m going to write more, I need sustainable income outside of the regular workplace. That’s why I’m changing some things and asking for your help.
If you love my work and want to support me you can do that in a few different ways:
The first is obvious… you can buy my books! You can buy them at ALL the major retailers, but the best way is to snag them from my online store (you can get discounts for sharing!)
